South
Mountains State Park Camping
Back-Country
Camping
If
you would like to back-pack camp, the park has several sites in
the back-country. You must first obtain a permit from the park office
to do so. The sites are scattered through out the park and are well
maintained. The distances to these sites vary but a short hike to
the closest site only requires a 20 minute walk. The permits are
free and the park rangers have a lot of good advice.

Camping
Eleven
campsites are situated next to the crystal clear waters of Shinny
Creek. There is a small fee for camping here and the sites fill
up quickly. This organized campground is heavily wooded and offers
an element of privacy not found in most State Park campgrounds.
This is also an excellent place to use as a "base camp"
and to explore the many day hikes in the park. The campground is
convenient to the park office and offers after hours self registration.
