Wilderness
Like
most U.S. Forest Service land there are few restrictions for campers.
There aren't any designated camping areas in the wilderness area
and the standard rules apply. There are many overused campsites
and some are too close to the river. On Summer weekends the Chattooga
River Trail, and the campsites on it, can become crowded. For more
solitude and less environmental impact, we recommend that
you choose a campsite NOT on the Chattooga River Trail.
Cherry
Hill Campground
A
favorite for "Car Camping". Beautiful campsites tucked
into the trees. Facilities include a bath-house with hot showers,
picnic tables and fire-rings.

Burrells
Ford Campground
A
U.S. Forest Service walk-in campground situated along the Chattooga
River. The walk to the campground is approximately one quarter mile
downhill, on a smooth road. The facilities provided for campers
include several toilets, picnic tables and fire-rings. Take Burrells
Ford Road, Rt. 708, and follow the signs. Burrells Ford Road is
one and a half miles north of the Cherry Hill Campground on Hwy
107.
Oconee
State Park
Built
by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930's Great Depression.
This is not only a well designed and historic State Park but it
is conveniently located for hikers as well as paddlers. The walk-in
campsites are great for a base camp. Buggy's are provided to ferry
your gear down the trail to you campsite. The sites are numbered
and have more privacy than sites in the main campground. The sites
are in the trees and just like the "real" thing! There
is also a bath house convenient to the trail head.

Chauga
(Chow-gee) River Scenic Area
Nearby
A 3,275 acre natural area that is a must see. The Chauga River drops
an average of 46 feet a mile making it a popular destination for
paddlers with a death wish. A poorly defined and primitive fishing
trail follows the west bank affording excellent views of the Chauga
Narrows and Riley Moore Falls. There is primitive camping here and
a small picnic area. The Chauga is a spot that is more known to
local fisherman than "out of town" hikers.
